Government

Want to contact your representative in the People's Congress? Learn more about our laws and our awe-inspiring legislative building in the heart of Portland.

The Commune, built in 2031, houses the People's Congress with 69 representatives of Califia, Cascadia, Portlandia and Mojavia. The building was designed by Jane Graber and Associates in a neo-romantic style

The Commune  has a beautiful interior with cherry wood adorningthe chairs and rails. Here, we have advocates from Ban the Bag protesting the government.

Recent Laws Passed

The Tolerance Acts: All people of the United Socialist States of Pacifornia, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age or ethnicity, shall be granted equal rights. They also have the right to live without hate or oppression from other groups.

The Antifa Acts: All forms of traditionally right wing politics are hereby banned. Specifically included are National Socialism, Ultra-Nationalism, Fascism, and "Tea-Party" organizations.

The Small Business Act: All large corporations with a history of unethical business practices (Walmart, Monsanto, Goldman Sachs, etc.) are to be disbanded or nationalized in order to support small and medium sized businesses. The Ministry of Commerce is granted permission to utilize police forces to investigate plutocratic practices. Vote buying and corporate lobbying are also strictly prohibited.

The Energy Act: It is vital that our citizens be gradually weened off of oil dependency. The Ministry of Energy is encouraged to promote the advantages of alternative fuels like electricity, natural gas, and hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The Education Reconstruction Act: Schools are the backbone of our nation and are needed to produce intelligent and resourceful citizens. We hereby call for the elimination of standardized testing, increase in teacher salaries, increased budget on education, fight against bullying, end of district totalitarianism, and healthier and tastier lunches (Have you ever eaten school bean burrito???).

The University Reconstruction Act: For far too long have students been suffering under the yoke of the UC regents (and other ruling bodies) and their capitalist oppression. We hereby significantly lower tuition to 1970s levels, use the tuition to only improve the schools' facilities and pay for the usual fees and professor and staff salaries, slash student loan burden, and fund our medical and science departments.

The Hate Crimes Act: We are well aware of the evils of political and religious bigotry and extremism. We hereby ban religions that intrude upon our citizens' human rights and pose a threat to the nation's state of security. The Ministry of Defense and police forces are granted the right to shut down websites, arrest and deport racists, fundamentalists, and extremists to appropriate locations. This includes but is not limited to, any racial supremacist groups and individuals, anti-government individuals, Christian and Islamic fundamentalists and terrorists, and theistic Satanic cults.

The Tourism Acts: In the days when Pacifornia was part of the United States, many tourists from around the country and the world flocked to see attractions like Disneyland, San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Seattle Space Needle. We recognize the positive outcomes of tourism as it creates jobs for our comrades and promotes good international PR. But, since we are in a cold war with the US, we must be on the alert for any acts of spying, sabotage and even sleeper cells. This is in no way xenophobic but rather an act of security for citizens and tourists alike. We hereby vote to increase security at airports (respectful frisking), questionnaires for Americans, quotas on the amount of visitors coming, declaration of time of stay, and increase security at major tourist traps. We still cannot fully trust Americans but we do show them respect anyways.
